Scrappy Quilts #2

The is part  two the Quilt show at The Country Store in Intercourse, Pa.  You just have to admire the skill and tenacity to make a quilt like this. The handiwork is so fine and precise up close and yet when viewed from a few feet away it is like a painting.

Crazy Quilt, my personal favorite style because I am actually crazy enough to think I might be able to make one of these someday.

This 3-d effect block quilt is so fabulous on this quilt.  The way the color values have been arranged is so effective, it actually looks three-dimensional.

Isn’t that amazing. This is my favorite and it is even better in person. All of these are made from little scraps of fabric. Now that is recycling at it’s best.

Quilts #1

There is a great quilt museum on the second floor at the country store in Intercourse, Pa. The theme of this particular show is strip quilting. Just in case you ever wondered what you can make with little strips of fabric. Well, aren’t you in for a  surprise! Look at these works of art.

Here is the close up of this quilt.

Here is a close up so that you can appreciate all the detailed work that went into this quilt.

All those little pieces of fabric that you or I would toss away have been turned into works of art and beauty. Their vision, talent and most of all patience is to be rewarded. I know I couldn’t do it.

Enjoy!

Cool Cupcake Wrappers.

It can’t always be about tablecloths. Sometimes I have to go further a field and out of my realm of comfort and talk about decor ideas that don’t involve the tablecloth.  So here is my first step outside of tablecloth world.

Look at these very cool cupcake wrappers. I love the colors, patterns and especially the laser cut out designs. You can’t bake in these wrappers so just bake your cupcakes in plain white cupcake papers and then when they are cool just wrap them up like little presents in  these nifty wrappers.  They make a great table display and even better take away gifts for your guests.

I found them on this website www.save-on-crafts.com  It’s a great resource site for those of you who are do-it yourself decorators and also for those of you who are, do-it-for-those-who-don’t -want-to-do-it-themselves.

The popular hot pink and orange floral pattern.

The black laser filigree design which is stunning.

Hey, wait a minute, that looks sort of familiar to me. Maybe if I just turn it upside down.

Yes, that is so much better and look below. No wonder I love these little wrappers.

They look just like tablecloths for cupcakes!!!

Hot Pink Palette

You don’t have to use just one pattern.  And you don’t have to have a flat table display. Try to mix and match patterns in one color range for some added pizzazz . Then try layers and levels for your buffet table. Cover an old milk crate or different size boxes with these fabrics and place your dishes on these levels for an eye-catching table display.  This is the Hot Pink Palette. Shown top to bottom: Cerise Harlequin, Garden Fuchsia Matte Satin, Watermelon Pintuck, Cerise Payettes, Fuchsia Helix, Cerise Gingko, Wellesley Raspberry, Watermelon Fairy. HOT!

Table Runners

Table Runners are a fun and easy way to bring some color to your table top without having to cover the whole table. You can purchase table runners ready made like this one or you can buy  fabric at your local fabric store and make one yourself. The standard width is 15″ and the length should be long enough to cover the length of your table and hang down about 8 inches on each end. If you are making it you can choose to have either pointed ends or square ends. I like the square ends because I can use the runner on a longer table if I need to and not worry that the points will be on top of the table. Runners are great because they don’t really get too dirty as they are running down the middle of the table and no one is eating on them. Having said that, you can also place two runners down each side of your table and use them as long extended place mats. It’s a fun look and protects your table where you need it most, under the plates and silverware, without having to cover the entire surface.

Set your table with imagination. Let tablecloths inspire you.

Printing patterns.

The Darcy pattern shown here is a classic “medallion” or “frame” pattern. Typically this pattern is  woven in the fabric and is known as a damask or Jacquard . It is very difficult to get the crisp contrast of intense color on a white background with a woven fabric due to the cross color threads inherent in the weaving process. We liked the pattern so much that we converted it to a printed pattern. By printing this pattern on white taffeta, we get a very clean crisp look that would not be possible if the pattern were woven. We printed this pattern in three colors: black on white, apple green on white and garnet red on white.  Each color way is  striking and makes a fabulous tablecloth statement. Use the search box to find photos of the other colors.
